Transeo and Transpicio, 2022-2023
Transeo is Latin for look across and Transpicio is Latin for look through. To me, the energy of the gesture embodies the sublime power of the universe. I create much of the work on unstretched, irregular pieces of canvas with oils, acrylic, and collage in atmospheric hues. I then mount them on standard-sized, stretched canvases. If the painting does not fit perfectly, I cut pieces off and glue them somewhere else on the canvas. The edge of the canvas symbolizes humans’ attempts to domesticate the sublime.
